How do i start a computer repair business at home?

Posted on April 29th, 2010 by admin

I have been fixing my friends and families computers for about two years now, and i only ask for donations. However, i think i can start off fixing other peoples computers and charging them. The only problem is that i don’t know how much to charge them for what. Do you know how much i should charge? I’m not looking to make alot of money, just enough to have to buy things that i want.
I’m a freshman in community college and unemployed, I also have alot of time on my hands.

It is quite difficult to place a fixed price on fixing computers as there are always various problems with them. You can maybe try looking at advertisements placed in the newspapers or on the notice boards at colleges and compare the services / troubleshooting problems. You can also try to start a blog on computers, what users need to be wary off, and probably give suggestions on common problems faced by users. Or alternatively you can try to create an ad, print them out and put them on noticeboards, drop them in the mailboxes along your street, advertise at busstops.

Can the place that repaired my computer have the right to auction off my computer?

Posted on April 27th, 2010 by admin

I went to this computer repair place to fix my computer. the cost of the the repairs came out to be 380 dollars. I payed 100 dollars as a down payment its been a couple of months since this payment other expense unexpectedly came up. I recently call them and I find out my computer is no longer there so do they have the right to do that.

Yes they do. Most repair shops have something in the fine print or on a sign behind the desk stating that repaired items left for more than a certain length of time can be sold to offset the cost of the repairs performed.

how to set up a computer repair business from home?

Posted on April 25th, 2010 by admin

hi i have been repairing friends and family’s computers for a few years now and have worked in a computer repair shop before and love computers!
i have been thinking about starting a computer repair business from home and i was wondering if anyone and done a similar thing before?
does anyone have any tips for me?
i know how to fix computers but i don’t know much about the financial side of things?
also i don’t drive. will this be a problem?
will people want to take there computers to a semi detached house?
any help is appreciated
thanks

Do you have some where that you can turn in to a work shop it would look better if when people bought there computers round to you they saw a workshop and not your front room. You will need insurance to cover accidents to members of the public either in your home or in the event that the work you do goes wrong and someone get injured (talk to an insurance broker). Get some posters printed up and placed in shops and take out some small lineage ads in local papers. Good luck in your venture it will work if you put in the time.

So if I want to repair or build computers for a living, what would I have to go to collage for?

I can’t keep my hands off the stuff and I figured if I’m going to a have a career, I mind as well enjoy it right? Being 17, I’m not sure what field I would have to learn in to get such a job. I searched the internet with very little luck. I thinks its Information in Technology, but I’m unsure.

Thank you for any help.

Hey man this is exactly what I’m going to school for now. I also have a part time job at a local hospital doing computer work. Your right its called Information Technology. For short it’s called IT. There are A TON of different IT jobs. I’m going to school at a technical college and getting my associates degree and my program is called IT Computer Support Specialist. Now you will learn more than just ripping computers apart and putting them back together, your’ll learn a little about programming, operating systems, IT training, software applications, Web development and so on. There are two hardware classes in my program, intro and advanced. They taught us how to build a computer in intro to hardware. I think its an excellent program because you learn a little about every aspect of the IT field. I definitely think you should get at least a 2 year degree somewhere. So go to your career center at your high school and talk to them about the different tech schools in your area or go online and do some research yourself. IT is a GREAT field to get into, even with the down economy everyone is still looking for IT guys. The pay is pretty decent as well. I hope this helps! email me at kbardouche@gmail.com if there’s anything else I can do.

computer maintenance, how to keep my pc running in tip top condition?

Posted on April 13th, 2010 by admin

aside from disc clean & defrag are there any Other ways of keeping my pc running in tip top condition?

Hi.

Try and stop applications running at start up.

You say "aside form disc clean & defrag" you should note not all cleaners & defragers are the same.

Mydefrag comes highly rated and has an optimise function .

Ccleaner apart from the obvious temporary file cleaner has a basic start manager.

Windows uninstaller is very basic , some other uninstallers search out registry entry’s made from the original installer revo uninstaller for example.

I personally would not go with any automated registry mechanic type programs.

Out of all i have listed mydefrag on it own has made the biggest improvement to my vista system.

There are small things also you can do ,do not leave compressed zip folders on your computer windows will keep looking at these folders.

The home page of revo now has a pay for version of it’s uninstaller if you google for version 1.85 this is totally free ( i have it ).

Ccleaner home site (do not go any-ware else)

Hackers at a computer repair shop?

Posted on April 9th, 2010 by admin

I need to send my computer in, but how do I know if I can trust these people at the Computer Repair shops?

Isn’t it possible for them to get my social security, driver’s license, etc?
I’ve had to fill out forms where I had to put in my social security, and other important information.

If they are licensed and insured and there paperwork is legit then do not worry they are 100 percent legal get copies of everything they give you or ask you to fill out and then keep it on file until you receive your computer back. If they hack your identity or anything like that take them to court and take those documents and all of the information you have found out about the company and share it with the court and get a free computer or money to repair your computer for free. Thank you for asking and most likely they are not going to hack you.

what do you look for in a Computer Repair Service?

Posted on April 9th, 2010 by admin

I am thinking of a name for a company and want to know what different people look for when they get they’re computer serviced.

Call it: "PC RE"

like in PC RE store ( PC restore),
PC REpair store …

hehe, you can email me later for my share of the profits…

Other than that, I’ve never went to a PC repair store; I service it myself.

How to start Computer repair business?

Posted on April 7th, 2010 by admin

How would I go about starting a computer repair business?

I’m only 20 years old and am naturally gifted with computer repair.

I want to know how I can legally get it going out of my garage to earn profit from consumers
with advertisement.

And what kind of employees do I need? (want to keep it small)

listen to me, FORGET the employees, u need to start on ur own, even if ur working from 7am to 9 pm everyday, first employees cost money, second they will never give u enough % out of their work since its not their business.

if u want to open a computer shop, u really really need to know how to repair pc specially laptops, with the economy down, the sales are not that good, i work at a computer store, and it has the best prices in montreal, all the resellers use to buy from there and resell them at their store. but recently they are not buying as much as they use to, because sales are down, BUT theirs alot of reparation,
and when i say reparation im not saying changing memory or hard drive, i mean changing the plug on motherboard, if its dark screen and its not the screen or inverter u need to know what it is, stuff like that, or else u wont survive.

LAST, u need to have contacts, good contacts, to buy the stock at low price, and the only way to have them at low price is to buy quantity, big amount.

im 25 years old, i was studying web design at college and i was working part time at a computer store, i fell in love in the business of buying and reselling, fixing pcs, so i dropped the course and its been 2 years im still working there, and im planning this year or next year to start my own computer shop.

hope it helps
