Can I take deduction for having my home office for my small computer repair business?

Posted on February 12th, 2010 by admin

This is for Tax Return 2009…I am so small that I have no other place do this…I make calls and look for potential clients and fix computer in my home office.

If this is your only place of doing business then yes you should be able to deduct the work area - . If the room is only used for the business then the whole space is allowed other wise you can only write off the space actually used - so only part of the electric bill, heating etc.You can write off the phone You really should check with an accountant/tax CPA . A good soure is Ron Mueller

What tax forms do I need to file for a computer repair business. ?

Posted on February 7th, 2010 by admin

I own and operate a local computer repair company. I need to know what tax forms I need to file and in what order. I have read everything just about on the IRS website and still have no clue on what to do. I know something about a Schedule C form, but where do I send it, how do I figure up my taxes, estimated taxes, excise taxes, or what do I need to do?

You file your 1040 or 1040A and then attach the Schedule C. On the 1040 or 1040A, there is a line for the Schedule C.

Want to start one person computer repair business, need a business license?

Posted on December 20th, 2009 by admin

I am 14, live in a small town and recently have thought fixing computers for profit (virus and software issues, not hardware).

Im just wondering if I would need a business license considering Im so young and wont be making all that much?

Also any entrepreneurial tips would be great!

Thanks, Kylar

Yes U need an occupational license through your local City Hall, but…………. I would not do that because of the exposure. Just stay under the radar & do good work.

Is a computer repair business a good career choice for me?

Posted on November 27th, 2009 by admin

I studied electronics in a vocational high school, I’m going to study computer repair for 8 months in an institute and then I’m going to university to study business administration…so could I start my own computer repair business when I’m done studying? would I be making good money? and what are the things I should do to start the business once I’m done studying

No, absolutely not.

In 1995 I could charge $200 an hour to repair a PC, because a mid-range PC cost around $2500 dollars. Today, when you can buy a mid-range desktop for $300 from Walmart, you just can’t justify $200 an hour. No one is going to pay you more to fix the computer than what they spent on it.

Also, back in the mid 90’s if you had a degree in computing, you could write your own ticket. Then, everyone decided that computers was where the money was and every man and his dog enrolled in computer courses.

So you pay $50,000 or more for four years of college, then enter a field where there are literally hundreds of applicants for every available job.

Basically, get into the computer repair business only if you feel like working your ass off and making about the same as a McDonald’s line cook.

My dad owns a computer repair business. I want to buy him a computer diagnostic kit for xmas. Whats the best?

Posted on November 9th, 2009 by admin

I’m willing to spend around $200. I’ve browsed a few online, but am having trouble deciding.
1) What’s the best (i.e., most sensitive and prolific, in terms of diagnostics)?
2) What should I look for when purchasing?

Something like this is very personal. I suggest you get someone to inquire of him what he would recommend. That way you get an idea of his thinking. Honestly if you are going to spend the money on it then it really should be what he wants.

what licenses do I need to operate a home based computer repair business?

Posted on November 1st, 2009 by admin

My clients are in multiple cities and I do go there to do repairs

None, you need a license for your home office so the town or city can OK it if there is going to be a good amount of people coming and going to your residents 2nd you will need a license to open a bank checking account, but other then that if you work out of you car and get paid cash you need nothing.
Go to you local office of license and tell them what you do and tell the you want a DBA license for your home address and that your clients are most out of state. Now you have a license to work out of your home for tax reason and you can open a bank checking account in a company name.

Ways to advertise computer repair business?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin

I’m looking for some inexpensive but effective ways I can attract more customers to my business. Any ideas?

I heard some good things about Premiere Ads Online. They will do all your advertising for you for less than you can put it in the newspaper yourself! They advertise you online on different sites and I think they start at only $15 and that’s for a whole month of advertising. They will keep you local or get you national exposure depending on what type of business you are in. Their website is www.premiereadsonline.com . Might be worth checking out for the price!
