My friend has a computer repair shop with store front window. The store is spacious and he’s suggested that I use some space in there for another business that can complement his. He says he needs something that can help attracting more customers to the store but doesn’t have the fund to add another business to his.

And that’s where my question comes from. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I own a computer repair shop and I was wondering what you really hate about taking your computer to a repair shop? What service would you really like to see while there? Does price really matter to you? I would like to get more insight into my customers opinions to provide better service and a better all round experience for my clients. Since there are so many people today that can build and fix computers it all boils down to the price. Most of us can get it done for free from a friend or family member. The stuff that can’t be fixed easily is often cheaper to get replaced than fixed.

If you want to start a business and be successful then you need to A. fix them fast and B. fix them cheap.

I would like to hear from other computer repair technicians. I have just started my own small business, mobile computer repairs for small businesses and home users, in rural Ireland, I am getting a lot of virus removal, spy-ware removal, formatting of operating systems type of work, I also intend on offering basic website design service I am also doing data recovery on usb sticks cameras and computers. I would like advice on increasing my income in areas which have proved to increase income for other such small businesses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have to keep mind comparative prices. You also have to keep in mind costs for your own time and labor. So you might have to keep researching.

I found out I wanted to become a computer repair technician. I plan on going to a tech school, but I’m not sure whats right for me. I mean Phoenix? ITT Tech? Kaplan? Devry? I’m very lost. I mean what do I study once I do find a college? Computer Science? Information Technology? Please anything will help.

For-profit schools should usually be avoided. You’re almost always better off going to a community college.
However, of the for-profit schools on your list, DeVry actually has good technician/technologist programs (because their 4yr BSCET is TAC/ABET-accredited). For Computer Repair, if that’s all you want, I recommend the 2yr (actually 18 month) DeVry Technician program, which you can convert to a BSTM (Technology Management) in a few years when you want to be promoted.

DeVry is not good for it’s other programs, so don’t take this as a general endorsement of DeVry.

Except for the licence from the the Government and so on…What are the must have tools for starting computer repair shop?

I fix computers part time. However, I recently read that if I advertise without a license, I can get into trouble. So my question is: 1. What are the prerequisites to apply for a business license for a computer repair license? 2. Do I have to pay taxes? What form do I use? I live in Houston, tx . Thanks you guys.

Looks like you need a Private Investigator’s license for the state of Texas. You’ll also have to pay State and Federal income taxes. You might use the 1040-EZ form.

I am currently in college for computer programming, and wish to fix computers locally on the side. What I was planning on doing was running an ad, along with prices offering general PC repair locally on Craigslist. If I was to do this and attract business would I need a DBA or some other kind of license?

You will need a city business license, probably, and you will want to register a DBA name as well.
