doing the repairs is able to snoop around if s/he wants to?

ie: is it normal and necessary practice to give the person repairing your computer the password you use to reach your desktop?

its inevitable but i do feel that too manypeople take their pc to the repair man when it could easily be repaired at home with a little study / It always makes me laugh in pc world or the like when you hear people at the tech desk asking numbnut questions like can you wipe my disk and stick a new OS on it or put some extra ram in when these actions are so easy to do at home , including virus removal .

I’m looking for someone reliable that can possibly make in home calls for pc repairs. I don’t really have the money to buy brand new equiptment, but I know that my current pc can be cleaned and reinstalled with newer, smoother software. I also think that I need an anti-virus.
Please inform, it would be greatly appreciated.

How would u go about starting a home computer business, doing repairs, upgrades and that sort of thing in NY?

1. Make some flyers and post them around.

2. Tell your friends and family and have them spread the word.

3. Create some business cards.

4. Charge LESS than Geeksquad.

Good luck!

Is it possible to remote into another computer over the internet to help with repairs?

Posted on October 15th, 2009 by admin

Can you VNC or use remote desktop to remote into my friends computer so I can do some things for him? If so, how can I do it or can you point me to a website that can show me step by step? Also, this would be working from Vista Ultimate to an XP Pro PC. Thank you for your help in advance!

The best site for you would be:

www.logmein.com

It lets you remotly control a computer. there is a free version and a pro version which has a 30 day trial. you have to install it…

Does business doing computer repairs have to have special license, as from FCC?

Posted on October 13th, 2009 by admin

Wonder if computer repair places need special FCC clearance, as can get into persons hard drive, etc get private info? Also if they get caught doing any internet scams, on own time on own home computers, can their business be fined, or even shut down by FCC once proven did so? Too many bad internet things ongoing, so wonder about these businesses too?
internet deals with communications so think could be som issue with those abusing internet to defame others, FCC or ???

The FCC ONLY regulates what happens on our airwaves - wireless products. Transmitters , recievers and such

Do you know of any free computer repair software online?

Posted on October 3rd, 2009 by admin

My computer keeps freezing and I know its a minor problem and dont want to pay for repairs. All the sites I go to say free but its frr just for the scan.

CrapCleaner (honestly that is it’s name) and Ad-Aware SE Personal work well with fixing minor problems.

Anyone have experience with Acer USA Computer Repairs?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

Hi, I recently sent out my laptop for repair to Acer in Temple, TX. It is still under warranty fortunately. I found an 800 number in the manual and waited and waited and never got a live person so I went online and filled out the form there.
They promise a 2-9 day turn around on repairs. Has anyone else had any warranty repairs done by Acer and if so did they fix it properly first time and were you happy with the service they provided under the warranty period?

I have never had the kind of problem you have. I have always gotten a response online from someone and I have never had to send mine in for repair.
