Why do Zhotkey and Interactive Services boxes pop up on my computer?

Posted on February 24th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been experiencing this problem lately and I can’t figure out what to do. The "Zhotkey" message pops up then disappears. The "Interactive Services" box pops up and I X it out abut it comes right back in a few minutes. When I run my anti-virus program it does not indicate a problem but who knows. Could this mean there’s some sort of malicious or spy device on the computer?

Using Pop-up Blocker
When you install SP2, Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer and set to the medium setting, which means it will block most automatic pop-ups. The default settings for

the pop-up blocker allow you to see pop-ups that are opened when you click a link or button on a Web site. Pop-up Blocker will also play a sound and show the Information Bar

when a pop-up is blocked. You can adjust these settings so that Pop-up Blocker works the way you want it to.
To change Pop-up Blocker settings
1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.

Internet Explorer Tools menu
If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific Web site, type the address (or URL) of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add.
Pop-up Blocker Settings window
Tip To temporarily allow a site to display pop-ups, click the Information Bar when it notifies you that a pop-up has been blocked. Then click Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.
To block pop-ups even if they are launched when you click a link or button on a Web site
1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
3.Select the High setting in the box near the bottom of the dialog box.
Note If you want to see pop-ups that are blocked when you have this setting turned on, hold down the CTRL key while the window opens.

Bid/Proposal For Computer Services for Police/Town Offices?

Posted on February 20th, 2010 by admin

I am about to Bid and Write up a proposal for computer services for a Police Station and Town Offices. The problem is, I don’t know how to price or write up a proposal for something like this. They have 4 offices, and a total of 25-30 Users/Computers a couple servers and various printers and other devices. The contract length is said to be 1-3 years.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Speak to other companies who use computers, ring them. It could be just your local supermarket or bank or even another force. Ask plenty of questions. Its all about Market research.

Are there any services that can make phone calls from my computer?

Posted on January 16th, 2010 by admin

I am looking for a service that will let me use my laptop computer as the phone. It has a speaker and a mic. I don’t want a Skype thing where I make video to other people with Skype. Just phone calls to regular phones. I thought Google voice would have this option, but no.

Yahoo Voice. I use it, and am very happy with it.

How much should I charge for computer services?

Posted on December 17th, 2009 by admin

I already have some pricing set up, but I would like some feedback/suggestions. I do web design (HTML), but mostly PC repairs/upgrades. For example, how much should I charge to add RAM to a computer?

Thanks for any advice!

Call up the most well-known computer repair shop in the area and ask them what their price is, and cut it. I’m going to go half. I live in a small town, and there isn’t a single shop in town. Everyone takes their computers to a Best Buy to get them repaired. The prices are outrageous, and the results completely unsatisfactory.

$40 + the cost of the RAM to add it is good, I think. Seriously, it takes like ten minutes. If you’re slow.

Is it illegal for me to go down to Best Buy tonight (during the long line) and offer my computer services?

Posted on December 4th, 2009 by admin

As many of you know, the line at Best Buy will be quite long tonight/tomorrow morning in anticipation for Black Friday.

Would it be illegal of me to go down there while the store is not yet open, and hand out fliers offering my computer services for the people waiting in line? I’ve tried to do a bit of research online regarding "solicitation," but I’m coming up short for an answer regarding this.

The property owner may have a say in this even if Best buy says..I don’t care..at the most they will ask you to stop or leave. those fliers could turn into trash that you COULD be held responsable for.
