If you don't want to erase all drives from hard drive then you don't need special kind of cd. You can do it by right click and format for that drive, but if you want to reformat you hard drive you need cd. otherwise any other external storage media.
References :
www.sacatech.com

boot and nuke. The feds use this too. burn the ISO put it select your options and start it. It would be best if you used more than 1 pass.
References :
http://www.dban.org/

if they don't have a cd with the tools to erase hard drive you should be worried to bring the computer to them because they might decide to use very large magnets
References :
Okay. I do have a computer technician license. I started out taking a lot of electronic courses. I started when I was 21 years old. Which was in 1956. At First I took basic electronics. Then advanced electronics. Then in 1998 I took online classes in computer science. Then advanced computer science technology. And after years of hard work I received my certified computer technician license may, 10, 2009. I am 74 years old and unable to work. I just help people all I can with their computer problems and don't charge anything. However it is not against mt policy to except donations. I do give phone help and also take access to other computers and try to solve their problems. Have a great day everyone.
Any questions e-mail me @ techniciangeek@aol.com
References :
Computer Tech

As one, I advise not being one. No matter how good you are at your job you'll never get the respect you deserve being an IT tech. You're seen as the janitor of the office during the daytime, there to clean up the mistakes of idiots in Finance and HR with only enough brain function to switch on the PC, after that it's "annoy IT time". You could have a better degree than everyone in the office...know that you would do better than them in almost every test set on paper and still they'll look down on you.

Advice would be to take up some engineering course where you can maybe work shifts or work on call and make a fortune. You'll get to work with computers and won't have to deal with end users as much. You'll earn way more, work in a less stressful environment and most of the time you'll just be sitting around waiting for something to happen. Any Electrical Engineering course would be the way to go.
References :
Just to be a repair technician, all you need is a CompTIA A+ certification: http://www.comptia.org/certifications/listed/a.aspx

If you want to advance your career, then definitely start with a degree in Computer Science. College degrees only create more opportunities. After getting a degree, then, depending on whether you want to be a systems administrator, network administrator, or programmer, you'll want to focus on Microsoft or Cisco certifications. For a programmer you don't really need certifications because that's what you get taught when you get a degree in Computer Science.
References :
A degree isn't going to help you. You would be entering the market competing for few jobs with people that have YEARS of experience. Skip the schooling and degrees, and work on getting certifications such as MCSE, CCIE, etc.
