How much do computer repair technicians charge? Is on-site and pickup different prices?

The mom and pop shops have THE BEST techs. Its the larger shops that have sucky/horrible techs. I fix pc’s so I wanted a point of view on price. I have found the larger shops have techs that dont even know how to get to a DOS Prompt - very sad.

It depends on where you live and what you need. On-site support is always much more expensive than bringing it in.

On site and pickup will be more. If you take it to the shop (pro, not mom and pop type place), i’ve seen anywhere from 50 to 80 bucks just to diagnose.

The price isn’t the important part, the competence is. Some little shops are great, most large retailers with "repair squads" send the computer out for repair and add their fee to the manufacturer’s price. Ask your friends, not people on Answers, for recommendations. Unless someone here lives near you, we can’t tell you who’s good near you, or how much they charge. ($25/hour and up doesn’t help you much, since a really good tech might charge $100/hour, but fix your computer in 10 minutes, while someone charging $25/hour might take 4 hours.)
On site and pick-up are expensive. You bring it in and it’s cheaper. (You pay the travel time at the same rate as the repair time.)
