Is the CompTIA A+ certification a real certificate and can it be used to get jobs in computer maintenance?

I had some guy from home learning courses over today i sent him away saying ill think about it as i want to research first…he said that when i complete the course i can come away with a Comp TIA A+ Certification and apparently its the world standard to getting into computer maintenance etc…i just wanna know is this true? can this certificate really get me into the job i desire? or is this all a big lie just to get my money?

Skills USA Computer Maintenance Technology?

I’m in the Computer Maintenance Technology competition in the Illonois State Conference. I was just wondering what the contest is like. I have the packet that says what it could be one but I was just wondering if anyone has actually gone there. Is it the A+ test and just repairing computers? ok i have xp and 2gb ram but it consumes about 350 mb in idle state . is it normal. i want to delete some microsoft services and application services.but whenever i tried this my computer restarted . because some essential process had terminated. and it happens every time.

you need assistance of some software that are available in the market ,such as windows manager,tuneup utilities or any tweaking programs software.however, stopping services of something without the knowledge of how it affects the performance will have adverse effect.windows will not turn off services them self, you might have turned it off.you could get the knowledge of each and every service that is not required or most required by installing some tweak manager,and carefully go through its suggestions and turn it off or on, as according to your need.

Many companies hire people to work on their help desks, looking after their workers’ computers. This kind of job can have a future, especially with a big company.

Some retail places (Best Buy Geek Squad for example) also have work in this area, so you can get a job on your resume.

When you get experience, you may be able to build your own business doing this.

There are relatively few women doing this kind of work, which turns into a real opportunity for you personally. You can make a point of how you listen carefully to a person’s problems, and find out why they’re frustrated, before you open up their computer box. Guys can be trained to to this, but as a group we tend to forget to listen.

Why when you go into a computer repair shop they ask you so many dumb questions?

I went into a computer repair shop to find out how much it would cost to upgrade the hard drive on my computer from 160gb to 320gb. I lost my temper and walked out as she was asking me questions about computers that I know nothing about. I said to her before I left " I am just a computer novice if I knew that I would just buy the hard drive and put it in myself" example "Is it DDR1 or DDR2" WHAT?????
I would just buy the 320gb hard drive from a computer mag and put it in myself if I was a "Computer geek" THATS WHY I WAS IN THE COMPUTER REPAIR SHOP!!!!

I’m sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I used to be in the same boat as you are now. I did a lot of research on the web to educate myself so I could repair my own computer.
Start asking around your circle of friends and you will probably find someone who knows or knows someone who knows how to do what you want do do and not make you feel like a nincompoop about computers. Changing out a hard drive is not difficult. If you have a second hard drive in your computer case it makes this a lot easier. Transfer all of your personal data to another location because you will need to install the operating system (Windows) and all your programs (MS Office) again on the new hard drive. Unplug the power cord from your computer case, open the case, unplug the cable from the back of the hard drive, remove the screws from the side of the case structure enclosing the hard drive (2 per side) and slide the hard drive out of it’s location. Install your new hard drive where the old one was and reverse the steps. Plug the power cord in and turn on your computer. This is where you start to install the operating system (Windows Vista or 7). If this is too much for you, find a reliable friend to help (back to ‘circle of friends’ above). Good luck. BTW-FYI, DDR1 and DDR2 are different memory card (RAM) blade configurations that correspond the the connector plug they fit in on the Mother Board. Increasing your RAM is not necessary when swapping out a hard drive, but … 2gb is good, 4gb is great …

I have just started my own small business, mobile computer repairs for small businesses and home users, in rural Ireland, I am getting a lot of virus removal, spy-ware removal, formatting of operating systems type of work, I also intend on offering basic website design service I am also doing data recovery on usb sticks cameras and computers. I would like advice on increasing my income in areas which have proved to increase income for other such small businesses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why do Zhotkey and Interactive Services boxes pop up on my computer?

I’ve been experiencing this problem lately and I can’t figure out what to do. The "Zhotkey" message pops up then disappears. The "Interactive Services" box pops up and I X it out abut it comes right back in a few minutes. When I run my anti-virus program it does not indicate a problem but who knows. Could this mean there’s some sort of malicious or spy device on the computer?

being charged for computer repairs when nothing has been done?

my PC has been having BSODs ever scince i got it.
i sent it back for repairs 3 times yet nothing has changed first time they reinstalled windows XP costed $250 (due to purchase of XP) and i didn’t expect it to be fixed, second time they reinstalled windows costed $90 and they just ran simple diagnostics, third time they did the excact same thing, the computer has costed $1000 and $500 has been wasted of ‘fixing’ it.

is there anything i can do to ensure i get it fixed if i send it back again, i dont want them charging me that i can do in the comfort of my own home.
each time its a different message, it happens when ever it feels like it…

it appears tht you are not comunicating to the fixit guy, he is ripping you off blind because you are letting him.

You need to observe the computer, research for possible fixes here in answers to get clued up and familiar on what to talk about. When you take it to the shop you need to be clear and consise in what you want fixed, so you pay for it to be fixed.

They probably charged you 250 to put XP in because that is what you probably agreed for them to do. Meaning , yes put XP on thanks, with no memntion of actually fixing it.

So have a look at yourself and go forth young man.
